THE NINE QUESTIONS

A fantasy in which young Willie,a foundling, sets off in quest of his heritage, equipped with nothing but a whistle and a magic cap. Pursued by an adversary who assumes various forms and befriended by a small girl and a fool, the magic properties of his cap and whistle protect him from the Prince of Darkness, who ironically appears in the guise of light. But it is truth which ultimately serves him well in his defeat of evil, truth which is manifest in his poetic answer to nine riddles. A clear and attractive allegory, a welcome digression from the vast library of pedestrian material confronting today's young reader.
