Paris, Naples, Cairo, Algiers,- the first trip to Abyssinia for the coronation ceremony and the "crazy enchantment" of that country; Adon, ; the continued fascination for "distant and barbarous places" which took him to Brazil- and into the bush. There's the awareness here, the talent for the clever- the facile- one associates with Waugh and which gives this continuity a special charm.
