MUST DESTRUCTION BE OUR DESTINY

Subtitled ""A Scientist Speaks as a Citison"" -- this is further discussion of the atomic bomb in its international implications -- its threat to the world rather than its potential value. Essentially, this contributes little new to an already overwritten subject -- the conclusions tally with those in the official report prepared for the Secretary of State's Committee (see published section -- P.238). Here the main concern is not with the application of atomic energy constructively- but whether we can survive its destructive potential. He believes we can expect no enduring monopoly on the bomb, nor provide specific defense. That only by abolishing the atomic bomb can we abolish war -- and this must be done by world control, control of the U-238 and plutonium deposits so that no individual nation is able to imperil the world. Appended are the statements of the scientists at Los Alamos, Chicago, Oak Ridge -- allied information about atomic energy, etc. Simply presented and well argued.
