THAT FIRST EASTER

The Easter story is observed through the eyes of Daniel, the nephew of the Apostle Peter. There is no doubt that this is one of the greatest stories ever recorded, but in this version; which is merely a retelling of the main episodes connected with Palm Sunday, the crucifixion, and the resurrection, the author somehow contrives to diminish the essential quality of wonder and spirituality . It is still a good story but on a level far below its potentials. The device of using Daniel as a focal point for the purpose of giving the young reader a child's vantage point, is in principle a good one, but as it works out here, Daniel, as a character, is so undefined as to render little interest to the story. Adequate, orthodox, but totally uninspired.
