A wild, sleepless child is lulled into slumber by the night noises of the forest animals outside her window. That chirp she hears? That’s a baby chick asking his mom to bring him one last drop of dew before she coos him to sleep. Mother rabbit gives her bunnies one last chase to get out their energy before they settle in close together. And little cricket is learning from his mother how to play the hillside song. Each night noise that may startle young children as they attempt to find sleep is attributed to nature—rustling in the leaves, frog croaks, etc. Moore’s serene artwork in soft tones of blues, browns and greens will do its part in setting a bedtime atmosphere. The sweetly drawn animals tucked in tight for sleep will tempt even the wildest child to listen to his own hillside lullaby and give in to the Sandman. A must for every child with a window to the great outdoors and a heart that will listen to nature’s song. (Picture book. 2-6)
