FAST FORWARD: TIME TRAP

Kaz defeats both metaphorical and genuine evil in this mildly amusing if didactic second installment of the Fast Forward series. Kaz may be the magical Second Director of the Vidz, destined to fight evil, but she’s also broke. Even her beloved DVD player has been repossessed, and she’s too upset to worry about the real-life zombie kids who are stealing their parents’ money. When her magical Vidz takes her into the life of Kathleen O’Bride, orphaned inventor of a secret time machine, Kaz recklessly changes the past. Alas, as movie-lover Kaz should have known, changing the past also changes the present—and in the new present, Kaz never received her Vidz. Without it, how can she fix what she’s broken? As she becomes less self-centered, Kaz learns to accept help from her Vidz sister to save the day in both reality and fantasy. Kaz’s defeat of the wicked femmes fatales Mrs. Leigh and Mrs. Bates, told in prose, script and storyboards, continues to entertain. (Fantasy. 9-13)
