Dozens of drawings and decorations lighten this approach to an arduous, time-consuming, and not always fruitful pursuit. Unlike this pair's previous collaborations, How to Find a Ghost (1988) and How to Catch a Flying Saucer (1991), the subject here appeals to skeptics and believers alike; there are so many kinds of ``treasure'' (from solid gold to historical information and artifacts) and so many places to seek it (from ghost towns to garage sales) that few children will be able to resist the call. A wealth of common-sense tips, as well as laws regarding issues like the ownership of found objects and legal hunting grounds (not consistently entered in the index, unfortunately); a spate of stories about both successful and failed attempts to find riches; and a solid introduction to ciphers—all make for rewarding reading.
