Ormerod jumps into a pond full of “Frog Prince” makeovers with her comical flip on the classic tale. When the Princess drops her golden ball into the pond, she likes what she sees—a green-eyed Froggie. She offers to let him keep the ball if she can play with him, eat at his place, and sleep at his house three times. Each time, she prompts, “Remember what you promised!” As she paddles among the water lilies, delicately eats bugs with her rosebud mouth, dons snorkeling gear, and challenges Froggie in a diving competition, his disgust with her human characteristics turns to friendship just as the Princess turns into a “Frogess” (the wicked wizard’s spell being broken)—and he likes what he sees. Cartoonish paint-and-collage illustrations exaggerate the ribbeting-good fun with playful type arrangement adding bounce. Kids will be tickled by this humorous switcheroo. (Picture book. 4-7)
