Jan Gallagher, who sued ``General Jack'' hospital for sex discrimination (Bagged, 1991) and won but was shunted off to a do- nothing security job there, is now assigned as staff liaison with DEA agent George Windish, a bossy incompetent, who's determined to keep alive Carmen Romero-Muehlen, a federal witness against her major drug cohorts, while she awaits a liver transplant. A paid assassin known as the Hammer, who leaves a signature NFL sticker on all his hits, is out to get the ailing Carmen, however, and in the process kills one taxi driver, one nurse, Carmen's personal bodyguard, innumerable DEA agents, and then, in a last-ditch attempt to get at his target, shoots himself up with morphine and gets himself admitted to a nearby ICU bed. Carmen, meanwhile, dies during her transplant operation and our gal Jan agrees to take her place and draw the Hammer out, resulting in a bloody massacre down one hospital corridor and up another before Jan can call it a night. Constant bickering between the DEA and hospital staff, between Jan and both her ex and her current boyfriends, and between Jan's kids gets to be one long, unpleasant whine. Not much suspense, tension, or, for that matter, crunchy writing: a sub-par hospital thriller.
