Mortimer, the raven, and his unflagging, sensible sidekick, Arabel, are back with four more hilarious, very British sequences of mishaps. Wayward and indomitable, with the conscience of a two-year-old, the inventiveness of a 14-year-old enfant terrible, and the slyness of an elderly reprobate, Mortimer is a classic scene-stealer. Nonchalantly consuming not only an astounding number of edibles but such unlikely objects as upholstery tacks and a large bar of gold, always so as to cause a maximum of inconvenience; inadvertently obstructing various unworthies, including an elderly graffiti artist, an obnoxious cousin of Arabel's and a band of invading mice; involved in such whimsical pursuits as collecting dead wasps—Mortimer heedlessly complicates the action to the point of sidesplitting mayhem. The other characters are sketched with devastating wit, making them excellent stooges for Mortimer's depredations. A special treat for Mortimer's (and Aiken's) fans.
