A real curiosity: magnificent photographs of shipwrecks by the Gibsons, a family of photographers in the Scilly Isles off Cornwall — an infamous graveyard for ships right up to the Torrey Canyon. The Gibsons started their odd specialty in the 1870s and are still in business today. The pictures are mainly of three, and four-masted ships in various stages of disintegration. Fowles' text is lively but unobtrusive. A beautiful book.
