THE CANTANKEROUS CROW

The boldly humorous and deliciously colored illustrations of Poul Stroyer capture enchantingly the whimsy of a story of a family of ""queer"" crows, and particularly of the little brother crow. But the translation from the Swedish, done as it is at virtually the level of doggerel, puts an unfortunate barrier between the seeing and the hearing. The concept is fun. In search for succulent cherries, little crow is trapped by a farmer, who decides to train him for useful work about the farm. The little bird seems singularly lacking in any ideas of domestic discipline, and when this is ultimately proved, his captors dispatch him once more to his family in the forest.
