HOLIDAY IN FRANCE by Ludwig Bemelmans

HOLIDAY IN FRANCE

by Ludwig Bemelmans

Pub Date: Nov. 13th, 1957
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin

Collected and illustrated by the unpredictable creator of Madeline, this frankish omnibus spans the savoir faire of gastronomy to proper behavior en famille. Colette admires the spirit of Parisian women; Ruth McKenny discusses French children; Andre Maurois reveals the intrigues of election to the Academy; Paul Deutschman relates the story of how he and his wife bought an original Dior; Irwin Shaw suggests points of Paris interest....and more assorted commentary by other well-knowns telling of the Riviera, Marseilles, how to speak French, how the art students of Paris live. The tone is light, often very funny and always interesting. Readers of Holiday magazine will recognize many of the articles, although Bemelmans has modified them somewhat — bringing them up to date. Good reading.
