by Martin Gardner ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 15, 1967
Martin Gardner, who annotated The Ancient Mariner, etc. has lovingly gathered all the memorabilia about the poem Ernest Lawrence Thayer wrote at 25 (his only one) which appeared inconspicuously in 1886 and which De Wolf Hopper recited into immortality some 10,000 times. Since then there have been variant versions and sequels and Gardner has reprinted 27 of them here, including Mad magazine's which shows that Casey is still up there swinging. Notes, and a few miscellaneous statistics and a Bibliography and an Appendix further commemorate Thayer's hit single. Gift item?
