Fourteen paintings of animals in a modern ``folk art'' style, accompanied by amusing, deftly phrased verse that seems to have been devised for the art, rather than the reverse: while Hoberman's usual wit and craftsmanship are in evidence, the book as a whole has less unity than her other popular titles (A House Is a House for Me, 1978). The poems do make good companions to the naive paintings, whose bold forms and colors will especially appeal to young children while their elders enjoy the exquisite balance of the vibrant tones.~(Poetry/Picture bool. 2+)
