From the Polish-born creator of When I Open My Eyes (1990), a series of opposites (``I have one. I have many. I am low. I am high''), illustrated with full-bleed watercolors that are enlarged to magnify the paper's rough texture. Attention here is focused on a few spare, stylized details, rendered in luscious, beautifully balanced colors that underscore the contrasts, whether literal or metaphorical. A boy and a girl act out the words; it's unfortunate that the girl is consistently assigned the more passive role (she hides while he seeks, is quiet while he's noisy, etc.). Still, the bright colors and appealing forms in the imaginative, beautifully designed art will attract small children as well as adults, and it effectively dramatizes the concepts presented.
