LISTEN LITTLE GIRL

Before You Come To New York

by Munro Leaf

Pub Date: May 2nd, 1938
Publisher: Stokes

Highlighting in an informally conversational way the approach to getting a job, jobs classified and ways of living in New York. Three divisions of types of jobs open to women: "Beautiful" which includes modeling, theater, receptionists, etc., "Drainy" executive jobs, professional careers, promotion, advertising, etc., "Nice" — social service, teaching, clerking, etc. Honest in presenting facts and figures, recognizing the fact that some of the ways of making a living fall into the racket class, warning and advising that the way is tough and the sledding hard, defining qualifications necessary and prescribing the most satisfactory way of going after a particular job — and showing how completely the cards are stacked against the females. Good bet for the high school and college graduate, and out-of-towners bent for the big city. Pen and ink decorations.
