THE PECULIAR MISS PICKETT

Another extra-sensory baby-sitter who has magic powers -- a complement, but not a successor to, Mary Poppins. Miss Pickett was a delicate little old lady with snow white hair who stayed overnight now and then with Carol and Bobby, but very strange things began to happen when she removed her thick glasses -- gates swung open untouched, bathtubs filled mysteriously, and milk turned into sodas. The children were not the least surprised when she took them on a bear-hunting expedition to find the Great Bear who was missing from the sky; caught a burglar by staring at him and stopped a huge fire. Fine light fantasy for bedtime reading.
