by Noel F. Busch ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
An ambitious attempt to cover a vast amount of territory, which fritters away into more frivolity, after cursorily concluding that Europe is through as a center of world civilization -- and so POOF. He attempts to supply a Baedeker to the modern badlands, facing the problem of simple survival. He ranges over the entire landscape from England to Yugoslavia and the Russian ""spheres"", and touches upon such vital issues as the charm of French women, the fashions of ambassadorial entertaining, an ambassador's propensity for grey. Inconclusive -- save when he indicates the real democracy inherent in monarchy and such small items! A kind of pastiche, perhaps designed to effect the sombre treatises of scholars -- done with graceful charm.
