Pamela Brown is one of the two girls who, having grown up with Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons, wrote the Far Distant Oxus and Oxus in Summer, when little more than high school age themselves. This latest book, which she has written alone, is the same kind of account of a group of enterprising English children. Interest centers on the organization of an amateur theatre and the production of its show which makes a good story. The children's mature point of view (they range from eight to fifteen) may seem precocious, but Pamela Brown doesn't have so far back to remember, and these young people. There is careful detail and good dialogue.
