Each time the rooster crows, another importunate animal (hungry pig, cow in need of milking, etc.) also speaks while—for ten minutes—the farmer repeatedly snuggles in for an ever- diminishing bit of sleep. Then, at five, his wife also calls, and, jumping out of bed, he runs to tend to everyone else's needs before sitting down to breakfast. Farm animals and their traditional voices are neatly dovetailed into this appealing story; Parker's simple, nicely designed illustrations contribute dozens of amusing details. (Picture book. 2-6)
