GIRL WITH A ZEBRA

This is a slip of a book but it's a nice beginning, and its girl is probably not much older than the author. She's at Radcliffe, Emily Ames from Phillida, Indiana; she's pretty and somewhat different. In fact indifferent to all the notoriety she causes as the girl with the zebra imported by the biology department for Professor Philbert's monograph on the bony structure of the equus. Blaise, a handsome young man, who is on the other hand a not too commendable example of group think, uses her, and even though Emily is not untouchable (she loves him) she is still inviolable in a sense. Eventually Emily and the zebra disappear, after a brutal episode. All of this is quite contemporary in its message within its mythic frame of reference--a little chimerical, but appealing, like Emily.
