This volume is slightly less gung-ho about its quasi-dystopian feminism, carrying the momentum and maturity of the plot from the end of the previous volume into layers of intrigue that never drag despite the story’s length. The before and after of Harleen’s accident are neatly demarcated, immersing readers in the blood, sweat, and tears of her memories before cartwheeling through the fallout. Harleen’s grit, pluck, and struggles to carve a place for herself make her easy to sympathize with despite any number of poor decisions she makes. Main characters are White.
