Fluffy fun for cat lovers.
After a couple finds a kitten at their door, even the most mundane routines become different.
In a series of full-color minicomics, Frankie, a blue-eyed black and white cat, gets into typical kitty mischief while also bringing joy to her humans, Rachel and Mike. A webcomic based on real life is the basis for this book, a collection of cute, sweet, and silly scenes rather than a story with an overarching plot. From sleepy snuggles to sassily stealing people food, Frankie is always lovable with her expressive face and oversized eyes. One series of scenes features duplicate panels of everyday activities such as using the bathroom, making dinner, and being on the computer, one side sans cat and the other with Frankie always in the way. Anyone who lives with a social cat will surely relate. Another scene shows Frankie stealing a hair tie, a favorite toy of cats everywhere. Crisp, vibrantly colored, mostly black-lined cartoon drawings are in panels, sometimes outlined, sometimes open, with ample white space throughout. Rachel presents white; Mike has light brown skin and black hair. This ode to a beloved pet delightfully highlights the joys of living with a feline companion.

An illustrated sexuality and relationship education resource for teens.
A multiethnic set of realistic teen cartoon characters representing a wide diversity of body types (sizes, abilities, genders) have illuminating and honest conversations in this informative guide. The first chapter focuses on what sex is, how varied sexual expression can be, and what consent means. The second chapter nonjudgmentally explores various kinds of relationships, including monogamous, polyamorous, open, and companionate. Subsequent chapters discuss gender and sexuality (with joyful and varied illustrations), body image (featuring loving representations of many body types), anatomy (including outstanding drawings that are inclusive of trans and intersex people), masturbation (with how-to ideas presented), and thorough coverage of birth control and STI prevention. The book is rounded out with chapters on what to think about before having sex; orgasms; ground rules for sexting; kinks, fantasies, and porn; jealousy and rejection (including guidance on recognizing abusive patterns); potential impacts on friendship; and more. The tone throughout this colorful, visually appealing, and easy-to-read volume is honest, normalizing, and sex positive as it offers readers excellent and reassuring information. The married co-authors are known for their sex-education–related comic collaborations. While the dialogue can occasionally feel stilted as it conveys comprehensive content, the work is still crisp, breezy, effective, and noteworthy in a crowded field for its holistic emphasis on human, emotional aspects of sexuality.

Vividly rendered.
A fictionalized graphic biography of Siddhartha, from sheltered prince to founder of Buddhism.
Readers meet young Siddhartha as a boy shielded from the outside world by his father, a king who fears the negative influences of the world and seeks to protect his son from pain. Siddhartha’s compassion for an injured swan sets the tone for a life of kindness and determination. Though living within the protected walls of a palace, young Siddhartha remains curious about the world. Unsatisfied by the imposed separation from the people he will one day serve as king, he disguises himself and sneaks into the city. There, he witnesses harsh realities that change his perspective, fueling his quest for understanding. Even meeting Yashodara, the princess he later marries, doesn’t quell his concerns about the world, suffering, and impermanence. Siddhartha leaves the safety of home to join a teacher, following a spiritual path of meditation and restraint. After six years, he realizes neither indulgence nor denial provide clarity. Once he grasps the relationship between desire and suffering, Siddhartha’s path to enlightenment unfolds in flowing images of the eightfold path. The Awakened One inspires disciples and returns home, not as king but spiritual leader. The book conveys complex concepts in an accessible way and will appeal to readers who are curious about the origins of Buddhism. Ediriweera’s atmospheric illustrations include monochromatic, soothing blue watercolor-style backgrounds, and single-color accents of brown and orange highlight the crisp linework.
