THE SWORD OF GANELON

Set in England in the mid-ninth century, this is a fanciful projection of the history of King Alfred's sword, Fidelis. When young Binna decides to learn the art of leechcraft, he becomes aware of the malevolent propensities of his sword which craves the blood of friends. By acts of heroism, Binna releases these powers and redeems his sword which was tainted by the death of Roland so that it is now suitable to serve as the weapon of a King. Richard Parker not only tells an exciting tale of adventure but boldly depicts the climate of the times using with equal facility the tools of the historian and those of the ballad singer.
