Jonas, Maria, and Lotta — Big Noise, Little Noise and Little Nut as their father calls them — are the three reasons for the street's name. Maria, second in rank to Jonas, narrates some of the comical accidents and involvements in their everyday lives. The prose is successfully imitative of a child's way of speaking to a degree, but at times becomes annoyingly precious and sing-song in tone. Each happening is contained in a chapter, and chapters vary from highly to barely amusing. Black and white decorations by Ilon Wikland. Superior to the author's recent Happy Times in Noisy Village (1963, p. 599, J-201).
