THE GREAT ROOB REVOLUTION

Everyone won't like something in Roger Price's multi-flank attack on America's mass man, but it's fun. Take for example his stratification of the Roob pile (""Roob"" developed from the classic ""Rube"" to rhyme apparently with ""boob toob = the eternal plebeian = the sort that knocked off Socrates). There are the basic Roobs (Richard and Pat Nixon, Norman Vincent Peale, Shirley Temple, etc.); the Classic Avants (Arthur M. Schlesinger, John Lindsay, William Buckley, etc.); the Classic Sub-Roobs (H. L. Hunt and Jimmy Hoffa). Then on to the home and social habits of each. The Avant Roob ""always has a coffee table"" sporting Holiday or Realities but the Basic's coffee table, if he has one, has a glass top. Or the Sex Chart, with ""Goals"" among the items: Satisfaction of Female (Avant) to Repetition (Sub). TV, radio, and media get theirs followed by a discussion of the New Roobs in which Mr. Price opines that the student rebel is merely exercising an ancient urge to ""run downhill with a sword."" He concludes with a forecast of Cromwellianism and Caste specifications. Forget some muzzy preachments contained herein and enjoy pegging your favorite targets in the Great Polarization.
