Fairy tale meets detective story when the cats of Molena Point pitch in to solve some murders and foil a series of robberies.
A body is discovered in the territory of the feral animals from which Kit, a talking cat, escaped in Cat Cross Their Graves (2005). The victim was one of several brothers involved in a string of armed robberies up and down the California coast. Attracted by Molena Point’s upscale boutiques, the thieves start out by hitting one of the jewelry stores. Lead feline detective Joe Grey, Dulcie and the ever inquisitive Kit have been active in the past, calling in anonymous tips to the police and helping the few people who know they can talk solve sundry crimes. They can easily eavesdrop on conversations and spy on people from atop roofs or while hiding under furniture. Following the thieves to their hideout, they discover that the miscreants have captured a few of the feral talking cats and hope to make a fortune from their unusual talents. Hair-raising adventures ensue as the feisty felines slink around town picking up clues, fighting the criminals with tooth and claw and eventually returning their beloved hometown to the peaceful place they love.
If you’re not bothered by talking cats, preaching on animal issues or a complicated slate of characters, you may actually enjoy the clever felines and their well-drawn human pals.
