THE BEARS' PICNIC: I Can Read It All By Myself Beginner Book Series

Blandly and grandly ignoring the critics who are demanding dignity for fathers in stories and on TV serials, the Berenstains have made Papa Bear a well-intentioned bumbler in The Bike Lesson and The Big Honey Hunt. He is as stubborn as Donald Duck, not as ill-tempered and nearly as amusing. This time, he's choosing a picnic site and each attempt to settle and eat is disastrous until they finally go home to enjoy themselves. This is becoming a universal experience as traffic increases and open land disappears. As usual, the Berenstains' broad color cartoons and simple, rhyming text provide good practice for easy reading and gentle teasing.
