The road to heck is paved with intentions like the one that produced this book. “I’m black and white, / but I don’t moo. / I’m a fussy eater / who likes bamboo. / What can I be? / What do you see?” The child listening to this text will see a murky forest of muddy green shoots and, upon lifting the flap, a black-and-tan panda, thanks to the environmentally responsible 100-percent recycled stock it’s printed on. Part of the Little Green Books series “for green readers,” it’s undeniably eco-chic. Equally undeniable, however, are its limitations for use with an audience that depends on high-contrast images to get its visual cortex stimulated. A well-intentioned miss. (6-24 mos.)
