THE GREEN STONE

The line here is simplicity for, on the new highway from Monterrey to Mexico City, Mexicans kill and steal in their own open season on tourists. But when a dead American's emerald disappears, Inspector Menendes, with his knowledge of the Mexican character, refuses to get off the trail, even when the stone is transferred right under police eyes. Atmosphere, incidents and personalities persuasively combined.
