WHO LIVES HERE?

Printed on six house-shaped, nested sheets of card stock that successively increase in size, this extremely simple tale likely has more to offer toddlers who mainly groove on turning pages than those who want a fully realized story. There is a thread of plot—a mouse moves into a big, empty house, invites a frog, a cat and a rabbit to come in, they share a meal and then go to sleep. However, it’s the canted, gaily decorated, brightly colored house that takes center stage, as each new spread reveals a new room with comfy furnishings and, often, a small die-cut window looking in or out. There’s not much “here” here, but recent board-book graduates should be pleased, briefly. (Picture book. 2-3)
