William Wegman's Mother Goose ($17.95, PLB $17.89; Sept. 1996; 40 pp.; 0-7868-0218-9, PLB 0-7868-2231-7): The weimaraners are at it again, plundering Mother Goose for laughs in the competitive world of nursery rhymes (see Opie, above). Wegman (Triangle, Square, Circle, 1995, etc.) unleashes the rhymes in fairly pure form, creating collisions from small asides (``Aye . . . Where's the rub? Do you think they should be in the tub at the same time? Do you think they should be in the tub with their clothes on?''), undulating typefaces, and photo after photo of the ponderous dogs, fully clothed and awaiting their close-ups. Inventive, though not for every taste. (Poetry. 3-7)
