ABC released a trailer for the second season of Will Trent, its series based on Karin Slaughter’s series of crime novels.
Slaughter’s series follows the titular character, a special agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, his partner Faith Mitchell, and his best friend and sometime love interest, Angie Polaski. Trent made his debut in Slaughter’s 2006 novel Triptych, and has since appeared in 10 more books; the latest, After That Night, was published last August.
Ramón Rodríguez stars as Trent in the series, with Iantha Richardson as Mitchell and Erika Christensen as Polaski. Other cast members include Sonja Sohn, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, LisaGay Hamilton, Cora Lu Tan, and Susan Kelechi Watson.
The trailer, set to Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue’s “Whatta Man,” opens with Trent sitting in the passenger seat of a car next to a crying woman. “I’m Special Agent Will Trent,” he says. “You’re going to be OK.” Another agent is shown defusing a bomb. “I just need to ask you a few questions,” Rodriguez says to the woman, who replies, incredulously, “Right now?”
Later in the trailer, Trent approaches another officer, asking what had happened at a crime scene. “A guy got in his car, it exploded,” the officer says nonchalantly. “Oh, you figured that out all by yourself?” Trent replies.
The second season of Will Trent premieres on ABC on Feb. 20.
