The ad-supported streaming service IMDb TV will premiere the first season of Alex Rider in the United States on Nov. 13, according to Deadline. The show is based on the popular YA spy-novel series by English author Anthony Horowitz.
The books, which began with 2001’s Stormbreaker, chronicle the adventures of a teenage operative who works for British Intelligence. In the first book, Alex decides to look into his beloved uncle’s suspicious death, and he soon finds out that his relative was a secret agent; before long, Alex joins MI6 himself. (This setup appears to carry over to the new show, judging from the trailer.) The teenager’s exploits have continued through 12 more books, including the latest, Nightshade, published in April.
The TV series, which stars English actor Otto Farrant, was released on Amazon Prime Video in the United Kingdom last month and was recently renewed for a second season. A 2006 theatrical film version of the first book, Alex Rider: Stormbreaker, starred English actor Alex Pettyfer in the title role, as well as Mickey Rourke and Alicia Silverstone; Horowitz himself wrote the screenplay. The film wasn’t a financial success, and no sequels followed.
In addition to the Alex Rider books, Horowitz has authored other series for young readers, including the Gatekeepers, which began with 2005’s Raven’s Gate. He’s also penned several novels for adults, including two James Bond books: 2015’s Trigger Mortis and 2018’s Forever and a Day.
