Amazon Prime Video is developing a series adaptation of Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After, Deadline reports.

Fortune’s novel, published in 2022 by Berkley, follows Percy, who reconnects with an old lover, Sam, when she returns to the lake where she used to spend her childhood summers. The book was a New York Times bestseller, and Fortune has since written two other novels, Meet Me at the Lake and This Summer Will Be Different.

Leila Gerstein, who has written for shows including Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie, will write the series—to be called Every Year After—and serve as its showrunner. Gerstein and Fortune will be among the series’ executive producers.

Vernon Sanders, the head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, told Deadline, “Carley Fortune’s wildly successful book is the perfect blend of heartfelt nostalgia and poignant romance. With Leila Gerstein’s vision the audience will go through an exploration of this remarkable narrative in a way that captures its essence and emotional depth.”

Fortune shared news of the adaptation on Instagram, writing, “This project has been in the making for two years, and I’m so delighted to be able to shout about it. It’s especially poignant timing because it was almost exactly four years ago, in July 2020, that I decided to write the book that would become ESA. I was at the cottage then, and it’s where I am right now. (Actually, I’m in my car at the edge of the bush because I couldn’t get internet to work at the lake!) I can’t wait to see Percy and Sam’s love story expand and evolve for the screen.”
