Taylor Swift fans aren’t ready to shake this off.
Author Anne Lamott, known for books including Operating Instructions and Bird by Bird, drew the ire of Swifties with a comment about the pop star on X, formerly known as Twitter, Salon reports.
In the post, which has since been deleted, Lamott announced that in 2024 she hoped to read less about Swift, who dominated headlines last year with her albums Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), her record-shattering Eras Tour, and her romance with NFL star Travis Kelce.
Lamott struck a contrite tone in a subsequent post, writing, “Very sorry for snarky Taylor Swift comment. I probably got more angry response to this than for anything I’ve tweeted in the ten years I’ve been here. Note to self: try to do better.”

But there still seemed to be bad blood with angry Swifties. One X user posted, “Hate on another successful woman that cares about other humans??? Shame on you!! So disappointed at you Anne Lamott.” Lamott reposted that with the comment “Goodbye, think you will be more comfortable somewhere else.”
She later reposted other angry comments about her, seeming resigned to the negative reaction to her original post. “I grew up in a family where mistakes were punished,” she wrote. “You went to bed without eating. Mistakes felt existential. I’ve tried my entire life not to make mistakes, but I have—several times in public. It’s just terrifying, every time. I so don’t belong in the public eye. But here I am.”
