Lisa Gardner’s novel Before She Disappeared is headed to the small screen with actor Hilary Swank on board, Deadline reports.
Entertainment One is developing Gardner’s mystery novel with the Oscar-winning Swank attached to star.
Before She Disappeared, published by Dutton in January, follows an investigator named Frankie Elkin searching for two missing teenage girls in Boston. A critic for Kirkus called the novel “a pretty solid mystery.”
Swank (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby) will also executive produce the series along with Phillip Schneider, Guymon Casady, Justin Grey Stone, Rene Rigal, Nuno Bettencourt, and David Thwaites.
“BIG NEWS! I’m thrilled to share that BEFORE SHE DISAPPEARED is headed to the screen with @HilarySwank on board to play Frankie Elkin in a future TV series!” Gardner wrote on Twitter. “Hilary will star AND produce alongside more amazing folks over at @entonegroup.”

Gardner’s novels have been adapted for television before. Her 1995 novel, At the Midnight Hour, written under the pen name Alicia Scott, was adapted into a TV movie, as were her 2002 book, The Survivors Club and her 2007 novel, Hide.
Publisher Dutton announced that Frankie Elkin will return in Gardner’s next book, One Step Too Far, which is scheduled to be published on Jan. 18, 2022.
