Legendary broadcaster Charlie Gibson retired from ABC more than 12 years ago, but now he’s coming back—and this time, he’ll be talking books, not politics.
The former ABC News anchor and his daughter Kate Gibson will host a podcast, The Book Case, for the network’s audio division, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“Kate and I share tremendous regard for those who succeed in the craft of writing,” Charlie Gibson said. “In each podcast episode, we hope listeners will get insights into the minds of accomplished writers, and that they or their book club might consider our recommendations for their next read.”
The Gibsons have picked a fitting guest for their first episode: Oprah Winfrey, the media maven and book club impresario. Other guests will include Carla Hayden, the librarian of Congress as well as authors John Irving (The World According to Garp) and Sue Miller (While I Was Gone).
Charlie Gibson was a host of Good Morning America for 18 years and the anchor of ABC’s World News for three. His daughter Kate is a graduate student and former television producer and director.
In a trailer for the podcast, Kate Gibson introduced herself, and says, “I hope I don’t regret starting a weekly podcast with my father.”
“Thanks, kiddo, I’ll try to make sure that’s the case,” her father responds.
The Book Case premieres on May 2 on a variety of platforms, including Spotify, Apple, and Amazon.
