Jessica Biel aims to teach young readers about menstruation in a new book, People magazine reports.
DK Children and A Kids Co. will publish the actor’s A Kids Book About Periods this spring. The press describes the book as “an accessible and empowering introduction to periods.”
This will be the first book from Biel, the actor who first rose to fame as a star of the series 7th Heaven and has since gone on to star in films including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Rules of Attraction, Total Recall, and A Kind of Murder.
It will be the latest installment in DK Children’s A Kids Book series, which has also included titles such as Billie Jean King’s A Kids Book About Equality, Ziggy Marley’s A Kids Book About Love, and Charnaie Gordon’s A Kids Book About Diversity.
Biel’s book, the publisher says, “provides positive information about how periods work. It helps to show children aged 5-9 that periods are normal and that getting your period is actually pretty cool—it’s one of the things we share as human beings!”
Biel shared news of the book on Instagram, writing, “People don’t talk enough about periods. PERIOD. So I wrote this book to change that. If we grownups have the confidence to tell the truth about how menstruating bodies work, then we’ll give the kids around us the agency and voice to talk about their own bodies with confidence, now and for the rest of their lives!!”
A Kids Book About Periods is scheduled for publication on May 7.
