Cookbook author and entrepreneur Chrissy Teigen has been sober for a month, and she credits a book with her decision to quit drinking, People magazine reports.
Teigen said in an Instagram Stories post that she decided to get sober after reading Holly Whitaker’s Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed With Alcohol.
“One month ago, on my birthday, I got this book from my doctor and friend,” she wrote. “I was done with making an ass of myself in front of people (I’m still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like shit by 6, not being able to sleep. I have been sober ever since and even if you can’t see yourself doing it or just plain don’t want to, it is still an incredible read.”
Whitaker’s 2019 book is described by its publisher, Penguin Random House imprint Dial Press, as “a groundbreaking look at drinking culture and a road map to cutting out alcohol in order to live our best lives without the crutch of intoxication.”
“Thank you a thousand times over for sharing your humanity and multitudes, always,” Whitaker responded on Instagram. “Infinite gratitude for you sharing my work. With you, with you, with you."
Teigen’s endorsement of the book might have boosted its sales—as of Friday afternoon, it was the No. 21 bestselling book on Amazon.
