Investor, businessman, and environmentalist Tom Steyer will tackle climate change in a new book, the Associated Press reports.
Spiegel & Grau will publish Steyer’s Cheaper, Faster, Better: How We’ll Win the Climate War this spring. A webpage for the book says that Steyer will offer readers “a unique and unvarnished perspective on how we can all fight climate change—joyfully, knowledgeably, and even profitably—at a time of unparalleled consequence and opportunity.”
Steyer began his career working for the investment banks Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs before starting the hedge fund Farallon Capital in 1986, earning billions of dollars before stepping down in 2012.
He is known for his advocacy for the environment and ran on that issue in 2020, when he sought the Democratic nomination for president. He dropped out of the race after taking third place in the South Carolina primary.
Steyer told the AP, “I first became a ‘climate person’ on a 2006 trip to Alaska with my family. I wanted them to see how beautiful and powerful the untouched American landscape can be. Except there was one problem—Alaska was melting….From that point on, I’ve dedicated my time, resources and energy to helping America win the climate war.”
In his book, the publisher says, Steyer “explains how capitalism is an effective tool for scaling climate progress, offers his candid take on fossil fuel enablers, and explains why immediate action on the climate front will not only be our key to a healthy and viable future but also an investment in the future of our economy.”
Cheaper, Faster, Better is slated for publication on May 28.
