The Fifty Shades of Grey author is bringing her bestselling books to a new publisher.
E L James is leaving Knopf Doubleday imprint Vintage Books and moving to a new imprint at Sourcebooks, the Illinois-based indie publisher, Entertainment Weekly reports.
James will bring all her books to the as-yet unnamed imprint, including the massively popular Fifty Shades trilogy, which follows the sadomasochistic relationship between a wealthy businessman and a young woman.
The author said in a statement that she was “thrilled” to be working with Sourcebooks.
“It feels like I’m coming home—returning to my indie roots, and working with an innovative, dynamic, and hugely successful publisher who’s always up for new ventures,” Jame said. “It’s an honor to be part of an imprint dedicated to amplifying creative women’s voices.”
The new imprint will focus on “entrepreneurial female authors,” according to Entertainment Weekly. That description would fit James, whose books were based on her Twilight series fan fiction.
Sourcebooks CEO Dominique Raccah said she was excited to welcome James and her bestselling books to the publishing house.
“We share a belief in women taking and keeping control of their own narrative,” Raccah said. “It’s so exciting to be embarking on this journey, disrupting the industry by empowering women authors who have long deserved this opportunity.”
