Emily Alyn Lind will narrate a new audiobook edition of E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars, People magazine reports.

Lockhart’s young adult novel, published in 2014 by Delacorte, tells the story of the Sinclairs, a wealthy family fighting for survival after a tragedy rocks their comfortable lives. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus praised the book as “riveting, brutal, and beautifully told.” The novel became a phenomenon on BookTok, propelling it back onto the bestseller lists in 2020.

The novel spawned a prequel, Family of Liars, and another follow-up, We Fell Apart, is scheduled for publication in November. A Prime Video series adaptation of We Were Liars is in the works, with Lind, David Morse, Candice King, and Mamie Gummer set to star.

Lind, known for her roles in the series Revenge, Code Black, and Gossip Girl, will narrate the new audiobook. An earlier edition was narrated by actor Ariadne Meyers.

“One of the 10,000 things to love about Emily Alyn Lind as an actor is her voice,” Lockhart told People. “It’s soft gravel, young whiskey. She plays the lead role in the We Were Liars TV show with incredible charm and wit, but also with a ton of raw emotion and complexity. She knows this character better than anyone on the planet and I’m so excited for audiobook lovers to hear what she brings to the narration.”

The new audiobook edition of We Were Liars will be released by Penguin Random House Audio on May 20.
