Emma Roberts is bringing Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell’s One Fifth Avenue to the small screen, Deadline reports.
Bushnell’s novel, published in 2008 by Voice/Hyperion, follows a group of characters vying to inhabit the penthouse apartment of a recently deceased high-society woman. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “With a breezy pace that brings to mind a Gilded Age comedy of manners, the novel might not have anything new to say about New York society, but there are enough twists to keep it fun.”
Roberts, known for her roles in the films It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Scream 4, and Madame Web, as well as on the television series American Horror Story and Scream Queens, is developing the new series, titled One Fifth, alongside Marci Klein (30 Rock).
Bushnell will adapt the series and serve as executive producer with Roberts, Klein, and Karah Preiss.
“I’m so excited to be working with producers Marci Klein, Emma Roberts & Karah Preiss to bring my favorite novel to the small screen,” Bushnell told Deadline. “One Fifth Avenue is a contemporary look at the upstairs/downstairs world of high-stakes real estate, tech bro billionaires, old guard society, new guard upstarts, wannabes and busy bees in our modern Gilded Age. We can’t wait to start world building in one of the most iconic buildings in Manhattan, One Fifth Avenue.”
