Glory Edim, the writer, editor, and founder of the Well-Read Black Girl book club, is launching a new series of books with Liveright, the publisher announced in a news release.
WRBG x Liveright will debut in 2023 with a roster that will “feature women and non-binary authors, with a focus on people of color and traditionally underrepresented voices,” Liveright said.
Edim founded Well-Read Black Girl on Instagram in 2015. It’s since grown into a huge reading community spotlighting the work of Black women authors; its Instagram account has more than 428,000 followers.
Edim has edited two books inspired by her literary community: Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves and On Girlhood: 15 Stories From the Well-Read Black Girl Library.
Liveright said Edim’s series “will celebrate POC and underrepresented voices and build on the legacy of Liveright’s storied fiction list,” and will release two books each year.
Edim shared news of the series on Well-Read Black Girl’s Instagram account, writing, “I founded Well-Read Black Girl in 2015 to serve as a one-of-a kind affirming space for Black women to encounter literature and engage in critical discourse with one another. I am deeply aware of the deep structural changes occurring in the publishing industry and public education—and the tide of rising dissent that threatens to silence authors of color and queer, non-binary, trans and disabled writers—it is the perfect time to expand our collective work. We need equity and diversity in these vital spaces!”
