Katie Gutierrez’s More Than You’ll Ever Know is the latest pick for Good Morning America’s book club.

The debut novel from the Texas novelist, published Tuesday by William Morrow, tells the story of a true-crime blogger investigating a murder that occurred more than 30 years prior. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “Gutierrez imagines true crime’s often one-dimensional female characters with sophistication and grace.”

ABC News correspondent Kaylee Hartung announced the novel’s selection on Good Morning America Tuesday, saying, “This really is a wild ride ahead. It’s about how one dance turns into an affair, which ends up in murder.”

“It’s about marriage and motherhood, female desire and ambition, and our cultural obsession with true crime,” Gutierrez said on the show. “It’s also about how little decisions become big ones and the secrets we keep from those we love. I hope you’ll enjoy it.”

In an interview published Tuesday, Gutierrez talked to the Los Angeles Times about the popularity of true-crime stories.

“They always revolved around murdered women, kidnapped women, women in peril,” she said. “It’s always women and mostly white women. Wondering why [that is] led me down a rabbit hole of investigating the cultural obsession with true crime. That led to certain unsettling conclusions, as far as who is disproportionately represented, who is allowed to be a victim. That was compelling to me as a writer.”

Gutierrez shared news of her book’s selection on Twitter, writing, “It’s pub day, and SURPRISE!!! More Than You’ll Ever Know is @GMA Book Club’s June pick!!! I am so, so excited to finally be able to share this news!!!”
