Liz Moore’s The God of the Woods is the official summer pick for Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show book club.

Moore’s novel, published earlier this month by Riverhead, follows the aftermath of the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl from the summer camp her family owns; her older brother also vanished 14 years earlier. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus wrote of the thriller, “‘Don't go into the woods’ takes on unsettling new meaning in Moore's blend of domestic drama and crime novel.”

On the Tonight Show, Fallon announced that his viewers had voted for the novel to be the club’s selection, telling the audience they would all get a copy of the book and that Moore would appear on the show soon.

The book’s selection capped an eventful week for Moore. On Wednesday, Deadline reported that Sony TV had acquired the television rights for The God of the Woods as well as The Unseen World, her 2016 novel.

Both of those series will be executive produced by Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, who are also behind the planned Peacock series adaptation of Moore’s 2020 novel, Long Bright River. That series is set to star Amanda Seyfried, Dash Mihok, and Harriet Sansom Harris.
