Grantham Coleman will play the lead role in the upcoming series adaptation of Stephen L. Carter’s The Emperor of Ocean Park, Deadline reports.
Carter’s debut novel, published in 2002 by Knopf, follows Talcott Garland, a law professor who suspects that his father, a former Supreme Court nominee whose career ended in disgrace, was murdered. A critic for Kirkus called the book “sleek, immensely readable,” and “a melodrama with brains and heart to match its killer plot.”
Coleman, who has appeared in series including NCIS: Los Angeles, The Carmichael Show, and The Americans, will play Talcott Garland in the adaptation.
MGM+ announced two other cast members for the series: Paulina Lule (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Good Place) will star as Kimmer Madison Garland, Talcott’s wife, while Tiffany Mack (Jessica Jones, Hap and Leonard) will play Mariah Denton, Talcott’s sister.
Coleman confirmed his casting in an Instagram post, writing, “Blessings on blessings!!! Thankful to be a part of this project and bring this story to life. Grandma’s wildest dream on this one.”
Lule also took to the photo-sharing platform to comment on the project, writing, “Is this real life?!!?! I’m so grateful to have ridden the roller coaster it took to get to this point with my amazing team, and I CANNOT WAIT for what’s ahead!”
