Rebecca Yarros’ In the Likely Event is headed to Netflix, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Yarros’ novel, published in 2023 by Amazon’s romance imprint, Montlake, follows Izzy Astor and Nate Phelan, who connect with each other on an airplane that crashes into the Missouri River shortly after takeoff. The two are reunited years later in Afghanistan, after Izzy has gone into politics and Nate has joined the military.

Netflix is adapting a film based on the novel. Lindsey Ferrentino, known for her plays Ugly Lies the Bone and Amy and the Orphans, will write the screenplay.

Yarros is best known for her blockbuster romantasy Empyrean series, comprised of the novels Fourth Wing and Iron Flame; a third installment, Onyx Storm, is scheduled for publication next year. Fourth Wing is currently being adapted as an Amazon MGM Studios series.

Yarros shared news of the In the Likely Event film on Instagram, writing, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Dylan Clark Productions and Netflix to bring In the Likely Event to life and honored to be an [executive producer]! It’s such a special book to me and I can’t wait to see Nate and Izzy brought to the screen by such a thoughtful and passionate team of creators! Lindsey Ferrentino has a been a dream to have as the [project’s] writer!”
